Haha she sparked a cultural debate for sure. The Twitter reaction to this post has varied; there are people who hope what I predict happens and then there are people who think my observations are nothing but puritanical judgment. Either way, we can agree we live in interesting times.
Thanks for the recommendation of Sex and Culture, it sounds like something I'd like to read. Added it to my list.
When I hit college and watched my peers and the effects sex positivity had on their lives - especially on display because I went to an art school - it made me grateful for the way I'd been raised. In freshman year it just seemed like everyone was having fun. But by senior year people were dealing with all kinds of fallout (abortions, poor relationships, STDs, etc.) Just in that short time I saw, as you say, an energy shift in people's mindsets.
Also, I laughed at "Maybe Evie Magazine will overthrow Bitch Magazine, Tekken style."
I recommend the book if you can stomach the quintessential dry English manner of observing and analyzing things. (As a side note, my theory is that the English write far better than Americans, even if a little rhetorically arid. At least by modern standards. This is one of the hills I'll happily die on.)
Re: your college experience. I'd say many people can relate to that. College socialization (especially co-ed) seems to be a Dionysian affair (emotion, intoxication, volatility, etc) but those who manage to keep some Apollonian impulse (clarity, restraint) alive come out fairly unscathed or at least they're able to articulate their discomfort with their surroundings and naturally avoid maladaptive behavior.
We might see an excessive side to this coming wave. But it seems objectively better as a problem than, you know, endless recreational abortions, imbalanced relationships, estrogenic men, women larping as dudes, sexually transmitted diseases, as you mentioned. We'll see what happens.
And yes, that'd be a funny match. Evie versus Bitch.
I'm worried bc there's not even that much backlash https://www.facebook.com/TheHarvardCrimson/posts/10158651329372737 (but half the comments can't be displayed so maybe they were flagged for being too based). I used to see this cringey (and honestly abusive and rapey) sex ed in California a lot but the fact that it's being successfully fed to Harvard undergrads makes it obvious that it's not about to fade away.
Damn. Vindicated again
Haha did not expect to see you around this side of Substack. Wilkommen.
Oh I love the woman tearing down the OKCupid porn.

Always love your though provoking perspectives :)
Thank you, Michelle! Hope you're doing well.
glad you're back. so interesting to read your thoughts and follow on the journey!
Thank you, Peri. Glad to have you here.

(As always, great hearing from you.)
when did you become such a conservative supporting antiivaxxers? yes truly great video
"call it sex negativity or common sense" I'll call it abstinence-positivity.
So Harvard now has a "sex week" and it looks heinous. https://www.facebook.com/sexweekatharvard
